The PowerWatts™ training system

The PowerWatts™ training system was created in 1996 by Paulo Saldanha, an exercise physiologist and former professional Ironman triathlete. Paulo combined practical experience of many years of racing with his scientific understanding of the human body and its relationship with stress, adaptations and recovery to create an effective, dynamic and exciting group training system. The PowerWatts™ system combines laboratory-based testing, scientifically-based training, computer technology and software, cycling hardware and elite coaching to make for an incredible indoor cycling experience.

Interval Training

PowerWatts™ has been tested and refined over the last decade and has helped hundreds of riders and fitness enthusiasts by increasing cycling specific fitness and improving overall performance in other sports as well. The interval training format challenges all participants to reach new limits in their fitness and cycling. The beauty of the PowerWatts™ training system is that it takes advantage of the group training dynamic, yet allows for specific power levels for up to 8 riders. Up to 8 cyclists can work side by side, but each one has power objectives that relate to their own specific level. Another unique advantage of this system is that each session is lead by a motivating PowerCoach™.

 

Training Periodization

This training system offers advanced scientific training periodization that results in up to 30% increase in power over a 26 week (2x/wk) training period. The program maximizes time by focusing on technique and quality rather than quantity.
